Climate
Riviera Maya in January is an ideal time to visit, offering warm, pleasant weather and plenty of sunshine. Daytime temperatures typically reach around 82°F (28°C), perfect for relaxing on the beach, swimming in cenotes, or exploring Mayan ruins. Evenings are mild and comfortable, with average lows between 68°F (20°C) and 72°F (22°C), so light layers are usually all you need after sunset.
When spending time outdoors, be sure to protect yourself from the tropical sun. Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF throughout the day, wear UV-protective sunglasses, and top it off with a wide-brimmed hat for extra shade. A lightweight cover-up or breathable long-sleeve shirt is also a good idea for added protection. In the evenings, a light sweater or shawl will keep you comfortable as ocean breezes set in.
